How to build a life of prayer?

How to build a life of prayer?

In order to build a prayer life, we must first know what prayer is. Prayer is our means of Speaking with God. We cannot see God face to face, so we pray. Prayer has supernatural power. Prayer is how we build a personal relationship with God. “Pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:17. If we stop then we won’t be able to talk to God. When we pray it answered in three ways. The answer can either be, “yes”, “no” or ‘wait”.

“Yes” because God knows we deserve it. “No” because God has something better for us. “Wait” because God wants to teach us to be patient. We depend on God for everything, even life itself. Prayer expresses this dependence as we ask God for what we need. When you pray you draw closer to God.

Here are some tips that will enrich your prayer life if you take them into account:

  1. Consecrate yourself to a life of prayer. “Continue earnestly in payer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving” Colossians 4:2. Set time aside to listen to your Heavenly Father, as well as to talk to Him. Keep in mind that God is never too busy to listen. Express the desires of your heart very trustingly, even those for which you do not feel good about because they seem to be a complaint.

  2. Watch the frequency and quality of your prayers. Do you pray all the time? Do you have communion with your Father while you do your daily task? Do you pray for those around you?

  3. Pray with spiritual gratitude. Be grateful for the things that you were blessed with. Thank God for hearing your prayers, for giving you your daily provision.

  4. Quiet Time. It its best to choose a time that is best suited for you, perhaps early in the morning when everyone is still asleep. This way you won’t be distracted. No one will disturb you.

  5. Pray with someone else. Praying with someone can help to build confidence. When someone intercedes to God on your behalf it is very powerful, for in prayer is power. You never know what else will be feeling.

  6. Schedule it. Set time aside and keep it as a daily appointment. Following this schedule will help you to eventually be a practice of yours.

  7. Make a Prayer List. If you have a prayer list, it’s easier to stay focused in prayer. You will know exactly what to prayer for.
